“I think the biggest thing I’ve accomplished so far is consistency and discipline.”

Why did you join CrossFit Northland?

I joined CFN because I kind of hit a “life intersection” and realized it was time to determine and prioritize the things that I value in life. In the past few years, I was so focused on engineering school, my sorority, and other extracurriculars that my health and fitness wasn’t one of my main focuses anymore. I just started to notice I was tired all the time, I wasn’t eating super healthy, and I wasn’t content with where I was at physically. I had always been active, 10+ years of competitive softball, couple years of volleyball, 8 years of karate, etc. So I started talking to a few friends about what they do to stay in shape, and one of them mentioned CrossFit. I had done the whole gym membership, group class thing in the past, and I never really felt like I was progressing so while I was nervous to start the CrossFit adventure, I did it anyway to put myself outside of my comfort zone! I’m glad I did. It’s great to feel like an athlete again!

What’s been your biggest accomplishment?

I think the biggest thing I’ve accomplished so far is consistency and discipline. The issue with my fitness and nutrition “phases” in the past is that they weren’t maintainable for long periods of time. I think I would get a solid month down, start to feel good but then become bored with the repetitive things I’d been doing. I’m definitely a person that needs the motivation from others past a certain point and that’s why I’ve loved my time at CFN. Not only the coaches from group classes, but also my awesome Nutrition Coach, Sabrina, always push me to better myself in a safe and enjoyable way.

What are you working on now?

In the short term, now that I’ve started to understand and move better with some of the techniques, I’m looking to steadily increase some of my lifts. But I’m also still trying to improve on some of the more difficult movements like snatching and jerking. In the long term, I’d like to one day get my first pull up!

What’s your favorite CrossFit Northland memory?

My favorite CFN memory to this point was definitely 100% my two month check in with Sabrina. There’s no words to describe the wonderful feeling when you see that all your hard work is paying off and what’s better is I love my time at the gym so it’s turned into a win/win for me. A very close second was my first ever rope climb! We never had rope climbing in elementary, middle or high school so I didn’t think I would be able to perform that skill for a very long time! #JLoop4days
