“I PUT ON 30LBS SITTING BEHIND THE DESK.”

Mr. Joe C has been with CFN for just over 4 months, and we’ve been grateful for his presence every single day!

KNOW YOUR TEAMMATES!

I work in an office above the gym. After being a flight paramedic I had taken an office job about 6 years ago. I went from working 24 hour shifts on with several days off a week to a 5 day per week job. When I was a medic, I was active outside on my days off so I was somewhat fit. When I moved into the office, I put on 30lbs sitting behind the desk. I had no energy, didn’t sleep well most of the time. I set up a no-sweat meeting with David and the rest is history as they say.

Tell us about your fitness/health background. Did you play sports growing up? Try other gym settings? Workout at home?

I had done some fitness routines in the past. Ran a half marathon, paddled the MR340 canoe race 3 times. Each time I would train for those but once the event was over, I usually fell off the wagon because I would get bored with the same exercises that didn’t have an associated goal.

What are some changes you’ve noticed in yourself during your time here at CFN (physically, mentally, capabilities, daily life, etc.)?

I feel great! I think I look much better too. Getting into the gym has become a habit that I enjoy. I am much more resilient when it comes to managing my stress and my energy level has improved a lot.

What kinds of things can you do now, that you were not able to do when you first started CrossFit (inside or outside of the gym)?

I can move around much easier. My fitness is functional so when I’m helping Dad on the farm, it’s much easier than it was in the past few years.

You’ve recently started receiving nutrition coaching at CFN, what made you decide to sign-up for Nutrition Coaching? How has your experience been with the program so far?

When I started this journey, I was researching nutrition on my own. There is so much out there! I was losing weight really fast but I started to see dips in energy during METCONS and weight lifting. I didn’t feel like my body was recovering well following a self-prescribed diet regimen. Starting with Taylor in nutritional coaching, she let me know that I was taking in about 800 calories less than what I needed. She explained the breakdown of the caloric needs to me and it made so much sense that it has been easy to follow. I’ve felt much better in the gym and I’m still losing the body fat.

In your opinion, what is the most valuable aspect of CrossFit Northland?

Hands down it’s the coaches and my classmates. They support, motivate and inspire me every single class. I’ve felt welcome from day

What do you hope to accomplish in your next 3 months here at CFN?

I want to continue to improve my fitness, particularly in gymnastics. I’ve always been a little uncoordinated so I’m trying to improve on those skills.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone that is starting their own fitness journey?

Don’t wait! You won’t regret coming into CFN to improve your health today.
