DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED!

How long have you been a member of CrossFit Northland?

2 yrs.

What brought you into CFN?

Steve Redmond referred me.

Tell us about your fitness/health background? (Did you play sports growing up? Try other gym settings? Workout at home?)

I was a cheerleader in elementary and middle school.  My dad was in the Air Force and we moved often, so I always missed tryouts for the new school year.  I attended three high schools.

You had prior CrossFit knowledge and experience before joining CFN. Tell us a little more about this. What did you experience during your transition from one CrossFit gym to another?

Well, this is a long story and I will keep it short!  My husband, Kevin, wanted to open an indoor baseball facility and I was a member of CrossFit Smithville.  We partnered up with Crossfit Smithville and opened up in a new location. My husband gave baseball lessons and I ended up getting my L1 and helped coach classes on the CrossFit side.  This is where I met Steve. He would come to our gym and teach speed and agility to our baseball students and CrossFit kids. We did this for 3 years. When our lease was up, we made the hard decision to close.  With two kids in high school, it was too hard to balance 3 businesses and family.

What are some changes you’ve noticed in yourself during your time here at CFN? (Physically, mentally, capabilities, daily life, etc.)

Where to begin!  Physically, I have lost around 15 pounds and have been able to maintain for the most part.  Still working on better habits, but it is coming along!

Mentally, I have gained so much confidence in Olympic lifts.  I have had many PR’s! Also, I have been able to push harder through longer cardio type WODs.

Daily life, changing to the 5:30am class has made such a difference in my daily life.  It starts me off on the right foot. I have so much energy and make better food choices throughout the day.

In your opinion, what is the most valuable aspect of CrossFit Northland?

If I have to pick one, it would be our coaches.  I appreciate each and every one of them. Each coach gives 100% to us.  I can tell that they go above and beyond to gain knowledge to pass on to us.

Do you have a favorite type of workout? If so, tell us what kind of workout you like best.

Chipper woods!!!!

What is your favorite CFN memory?

My first day of regular class.  Everyone was so nice and encouraging.  I knew I had made the right choice in joining CFN!

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone that is teetering on the idea of trying CrossFit?

Do not be intimidated by what you see on TV or social media.  Every CrossFit gym is different, but at CFN, they concentrate on all their athletes to be safe.  There are movement options for everyone to choose from for all levels of fitness. Take the first step and signup, trust me, you will not regret it.
