“My doctor always says he thinks that physical fitness has definitely helped me and will continue to help me, so I should keep it up!”
- How did your journey with CrossFit Northland began? How long have you been a member of CrossFit Northland? What brought you into CFN?
It’s funny how I actually became a member here. I was at a basic gym and was getting bored. I wanted to try something new so I started doing fitness boxing which was fun, but again, same thing every single day. I heard about Crossfit and wanted to try it. I went into another CrossFit gym in the Northland and was totally turned off by the way they tried to sell it to me. A couple weeks later at the Chamber, someone said there was a new chamber member from a CrossFit gym and asked which one of us ambassadors wanted to deliver the packet to them… I said ME! So there it began. I met with the owner at that time when CFN just began and I started the next week.
- Tell us about your fitness/health background? (Have you always been active? Played sports growing up? Tried other gym settings? Worked out at home?)
Believe it or not, in school, I was in track…. HAHA…. You would definitely NOT know that now as I HATE running, but I hated it then too, I just somehow ended up on the 400’s team. I also played volleyball my freshman year in high school. However, from high school on, I was always into “going” to the gym. However, I didn’t really know what to focus on each time I went.
- What are some changes you’ve noticed in yourself during your time here at CFN?
I have been here quite some time, so I have noticed many things! Physically, I appreciate what I look like more now after 2 kids than before. I always knew I had some strength in me because of my build, however, I never knew the amount. And if I could remember to correctly use my legs on a few movements, I know I could lift even more. Crossfit has been fantastic, especially with all of the friendships that I have made. I wouldn’t change that one bit!
- What kinds of things can you do now that you were not able to do when you first started CrossFit?
I always said I would NEVER be able to do a pull up. So when I got those down, that was exciting. I also have changed my food intake for the better ever since starting CrossFit.
- How has CFN played a role in your life outside of the gym?
I have always been someone that is happy and upbeat all the time, which yes, some people wonder how. I love life and I love people. Going to the gym each day keeps me in that great mood. On days that I can’t make it in, I get bummed out. Some people LOVE rest day. I’m definitely the opposite. Also, many people at the gym don’t know that in October of 2018, I went from completely healthy, nothing wrong with me, to finding out that I had multiple sclerosis (MS). That was a HUGE shocker for me. However, it hasn’t stopped me yet and I will continue on just like I am in hopes that it doesn’t stop me. My doctor always says he thinks that physical fitness has definitely helped me and will continue to help me, so I should keep it up! Listen to your body and don’t take it for granted what you can do.
- What is a goal you are working towards in the gym right now?
Yikes. I haven’t thought about this one. I know David asks me and I have told him before working on getting better at and not scared of overhead squats which then leads to squat snatch. I just don’t like getting under the bar with my legs bent. However, I haven’t been working on that like I should so if I really want to get better at those, I should start
- What does your favorite type of workout look like?
No running or squat snatches. I love cleans, rowing, and deadlifts. Workouts that have just one heavier weightlifting movement like Grace I enjoy!
10. What do you value most about CrossFit Northland?
The coaches and all the friends that I have made there. I love it!
