  1. How long have you been a member of CrossFit Northland?

10 years!

  1. What brought you into CFN all those years ago?

Bored with running alone and past pilates, I wanted the challenge, variety, and community of what I heard made up Crossfit.

  1. Tell us about your fitness/health background? (Did you play sports growing up? Try other gym settings? Workout at home?)

I grew up coordinated, active and brave- not overly athletic or talented. I’m less brave with my fully formed prefrontal cortex at age 41, (Thank you for saying it so well Simone #Tokyo 2020) but continue to be passionate about being active and fit. From high school softball, I added distance running in college and dabbled in poor-form swimming and Tae-Bo videos before I was saved by Crossfit.

  1. What are some changes you’ve noticed during your fitness journey at CFN (Physically, mentally, capabilities, daily life, etc.)

CFN has given me new friends, community connections, muscle definition, an outlet for frustration, the mantras of “I can do hard things” and “Be curious, not judgmental” as well as the gift of fitness with my family.

  1. How has CrossFit Northland played a role in the overall health of yourself as well as your family?

The biggest differences CFN makes in my overall health is the gift of coaching and dosed intensity. Health is hard on our own. A workout that isn’t intense makes no difference.  When I get to the gym, I am hosted and encouraged aka coached, through a workout that gets results. The freedom to eat without a diet but with intention and awareness helps too!

  1. What motivates you and keeps you coming back week after week?

I feel more awake, alert, and able to live my life outside the gym because I get myself to the gym.

  1. In your opinion, what is the most valuable aspect of CrossFit Northland?

The people! And the pink 15 lb plates. So bouncy and bright!

  1. If you could have one super power, what would it be? Becoming less offended to love better. Also stellar singing.
  2. What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone that is considering joining a CrossFit gym?

Come and see. Check it out. And if you don’t have money or time for a Crossfit gym, learn the Crossfit principles of intensity, variety, and full body movements, and use them in whatever fitness method you choose.
