- How long have you been a member of CrossFit Northland?
About 10 years ago a co-worker encouraged me to try out this new CrossFit gym. He said it was really challenging but fun. So several months after Crossfit Northland opened, I decided to give it a try. I may not have been able to move my arms for a few days after that initial class but I was immediately hooked. In 2013, I had an accident which left me unable to exercise for a while so I left the gym for a couple of years but always knew I would come back. Best decision I ever made was coming back a few years ago!
- What is your favorite thing about CrossFit Northland?
The CFN community ROCKS! I love how everyone is always encouraging each other during a WOD. CrossFit Northland coaches are the BEST! They know everyone by their first name and take the time to get to know you — What are your weaknesses, what are your strengths, etc. I especially appreciate the coaches going over the proper weightlifting techniques before we actually do the workouts. Plus, they are going to give you that extra push to go a little heavier when you just don’t think you have it in you to do.
- What motivates you and keeps you coming back for more week after week?
I think one of my biggest motivators is me. I’m 60 years old and I’m always striving to improve. I may not be able to keep up with the younger members in the square next to me but THAT’S OKAY! It’s me against myself. I want to be able to continue to do this as long as possible.
- Why is exercising important to you?
You know that old saying “Age is just a number”? Well, it’s true. I don’t feel my age and I definitely don’t act it most of the time! CrossFit is helping me stay young and healthy.
- What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone that is considering joining a CrossFit gym
Be adventurous and give it a try! If it ends up not being your thing then at least you can say you gave it a shot.
